Turquoise Jewelry Care Guide
Use gentle care for turquoise jewelry. Keep it away from prolonged moisture, chemicals, high heat, steam, ultrasonic cleaning, abrasion, and hard impacts. Wipe it after wear and store it separately in a cool, dry place.
Everyday Wear
- Apply perfume, lotion, sunscreen, and hairspray before putting on your jewelry, and allow them to dry first.
- Remove turquoise jewelry before swimming, bathing, exercising, heavy physical activity, or manual work.
- Avoid dropping the jewelry or pressing the stone against hard surfaces.
- Normal wear, surface marks, tarnish, and gradual changes in appearance can still occur with careful use.
Cleaning Turquoise Safely
- After wearing, wipe the stone and metal gently with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth.
- If needed, use a slightly damp soft cloth with clean water.
- For more thorough cleaning, use a small amount of mild soap with lukewarm water on the cloth, then wipe gently.
- Do not soak the jewelry or scrub the turquoise.
- Dry the entire piece thoroughly with a soft cloth before storing it.
What to Avoid
- Household cleaners, bleach, chlorine, alcohol, harsh soaps, and chemical jewelry cleaners.
- Silver dips or polishing solutions applied directly to turquoise.
- Steam cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, abrasive brushes, and abrasive polishing products.
- High heat, hot cars, heaters, sudden temperature changes, and prolonged intense sunlight.
- Prolonged water exposure or soaking.
Storage
Store turquoise jewelry in a cool, dry place. Keep each piece in a separate soft pouch or a lined jewelry box so harder gemstones, metal edges, and other jewelry do not scratch the stone. Avoid excessive humidity and direct heat.
Sterling Silver Care
Sterling silver can tarnish over time. Gently wipe exposed silver with a soft silver-polishing cloth, keeping the cloth and any polishing residue away from the turquoise as much as possible. Do not use a liquid silver dip or chemical silver cleaner on a piece that contains turquoise. Tarnish, normal wear, and surface marks are not always signs of a defect.
Care for Treated Turquoise
If a product page identifies a treatment, follow that product’s specific instructions in addition to this guide. Dyed, filled, stabilized, or reconstructed materials may respond differently to heat, chemicals, moisture, and abrasion. Because treatment materials can vary, TaShi does not promise color permanence or resistance to every cleaner or exposure.
If a treatment status has not been independently verified, use this conservative care routine without assuming the turquoise is treated or untreated.
When to Seek Professional Cleaning
Ask a qualified jewelry professional for help if the stone is loose, the setting is bent or damaged, the piece has cracks, residue cannot be removed gently, or the jewelry is antique, inherited, or high in personal value. Tell the professional about any treatment disclosed on the product page before cleaning begins.
